The rugs known as Khan or Khan Muhammadi are woven only in the Andkhoy area of Northwestern Afghanistan. In the main it is the Turkoman people who weave them. These rugs are named after Mr. Khan Muhammad, a famous dyer. Using special dyes and chemicals he produced a specific colour (a version of rich mahogany-reddish-brown.)
